HSMPS and the IOWA have enjoyed a vastly productive degree of interaction with the community. This exchange has manifested itself in HSMPS generated public events and activities, reaching out to the residents of the greater Bay Area. We believe the effort to bring the IOWA to our region and the battleship's potential, eventual development as a memorial and museum clearly demonstrate that there is an enormously broad base of support and patriotic pride in one of America's oldest seafaring and naval communities. To better appreciate this incredible outpouring of support for homeporting the IOWA in the Bay Area, HSMPS has structured itself as a vibrant community orientated organization. This integration with the community has been accomplished through the outreach programs listed below:
